This year, Robin Williams name has been associated with three Emmy nominations: ‘Outstanding Picture Editing For A Special (Single Or Multi-Camera),’ ‘Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special’ and ‘Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Special.’

In the ‘Outstanding Picture Editing’ category, Michael D. Schultz, editor of “Robin Williams: Weapons Of Self Destruction” has garnered competition from editors of “Kathy Griffin: Balls Of Steel,” “The Kennedy Center Honors” and “The 25th Anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Concert.”

The “Robin Williams: Weapons Of Self Destruction” camera crew is also up for an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special.’

Their competition includes the “82nd Annual Academy Awards,” “The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards,” “The Kennedy Center Honors,” and “The 25th Anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Concert.”

Finally, Robin Williams is personally involved in this category: Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Special. His competition includes Bill Maher’s “…But I’m Not Wrong,” Hope For Haiti Now, The Kennedy Center Honors, The 25th Anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Concert and Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me.

The toured marked his first in six years.  The DVD is the live performance from DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, which was also aired as an HBO Special.  The performance comes packaged as a DVD, CD/DVD or 2-Disc vinyl, which consist of 90 minutes of belly-bursting laughter. 

The Charlotte Observer reviewed, “Watching Robin Williams onstage is watching a master at work… very filthy and very funny.”  Williams covers topics ranging from cyber witches, the way to a man’s heart, Nascar and the recent forgetfulness of Smokey the Bear.

The “Weapons of Self Destruction” tour will hit an array of casinos, theaters and concert halls between September’s end and Thanksgiving.

The trek is making up for a number of stops cancelled when Williams was forced to reschedule a number of shows after requiring emergency heart surgery during the spring.

The dark comedy follows Williams as a high-school poetry teacher raising a frustrating teenage son on his own. When a tragedy occurs, the audience follows Williams through an unpredictable turn of events.

The film is written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, a good friend of Williams.

The comedy-filled special will be filmed during his tour of the same name, beginning in Bloomington, Ind., on Sept. 30. The show is scheduled to premier in December.

The comedy outing has been aptly renamed the “Weapons of Self-Destruction” tour, where he has rescheduled originally postponed dates, and added more shows to the roster. The tour will pick up starting at the end of September with an appearance at Indiana University, and continue through the end of November with two nights at the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

On March 13, Williams underwent heart surgery to replace his aortic valve, repair his mitral valve, and correct his irregular heart beat. Thankfully the surgery was a success and Robin plans on resuming his regularly scheduled one-man comedy tour called the “Weapons of Self Destruction” tour in the fall.

“I got some great new material for the tour and can’t wait to get back on the road. I’m thinking the next leg of the tour will be ‘Weapons of Self-Destruction and Reconstruction!’” Robin joked.
